When I began this site, it was to be dedicated only to those who
served in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm and made the
ultimate sacrifice in the defense of their country, its citizens and their
beliefs. Since that time, it has become evident that new objectives and
missions must be accomplished. Consequently, this site is now a memorial
to all who served this great nation in the past, and those who continue to
serve it. Our country remains the most coveted location on this planet.
In this world of unrest and turmoil, it is the soldiers who give their all
so that we may enjoy the comfort and security we cherish so greatly. Those
of us who have served by their side now have an additional duty: we must
never forget them or allow them to be forgotten.
While this site is still dedicated to those who fought in
the Persian Gulf, I want to take a moment to thank each and every veteran
who has served this great country and honor the memory of all those who
paid the ultimate price. I also think it is fitting, at this time, to
acknowledge the generations of my own family who served in the armed forces
of the United States. I would like to thank both my grandfathers for
their service during the Korean War and World War II, my uncle for the
more than twenty years he gave to the Army, and my father, Douglas Havemann,
for serving his country in the Vietnam War. To my new found family, the
men who, with my father, were members of the 9th Infantry Division, thank
you for being part of my life and for allowing me to be part of yours.
To all Veterans of this great country we live in
